Multi-Screen Video Wall Controllers (Overview)
Video Wall / Multi Screen Controllers with or without Real-Time Video Overlays
A Video/Data wall makes it possible to view all information on a virtually large high resolution display comprising of many “smaller” screens using Plasma/LCD/Projectors or normal CRT Monitors. The entire video/data wall will act as one large Windows desktop, hence applications can be launched and placed onto any single or combination of screens if not fully maximized onto all available screens. The source of the displayed objects can be data from your PC, e.g. PowerPoint Presentation, Flash, internet browser, Graphical Data/Charts, Share index’s, Control room data etc.
The displayed objects can also be combined with external live video HDMI/DVI/VGA or component using our XtremeRGB-Ex1, XtremeRGB-Ex2, XtremeRGB-Ex4 or PhynxRGB cards, for Composite or Svideo the XtremeRGB-Ex4+ or the XtremeRGB-Ex8 can be used. All XtremeRGB cards can be mixed & matched. The source video can be from Sky Set-Top box, DVD, Camera, Web Cam, Aerial Cartography, Medical training/teaching, Network Surveillance, Telecommunications, Video Conferencing, VGA captured from other PC’s and many more applications.
The Vigilant and Vigilant-X range of graphic cards provide high level multi-screen capabilities for complex data/video wall applications or multi-screen desktop applications. Using multiple Vigilant cards it is possible to spread the Windows® desktop across many screens:
- XtremeVision: NEW!, PCIe Video/Graphics Controller, 1920×1080@32bit, up to 40 screen support
For Live Video insertion any of the XtremeRGB cards can be used for HDMI/DVI/VGA/Component or Composite/Svideo. - Vigilant series: up to 36 screens (supports 4 x VGA or DVI Screens) VGA: 1600 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080, Four DVI outputs, each supporting up to 1280 x 1024 or 1400 x 1050.
- Vigilant-X series: up to 64 screens (supports 4 x VGA, DVI, composite, Svideo or HDTV Screens) VGA: 2048 x 1536, Four DVI outputs up to 1600 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 with reduced blanking, also support for 1400 x 1050 resolution .
The construction of the multi-screen system can be arranged in any rectangular format using multiple cards e.g., 1×4, 4×1, 3×3, 2×2, 6×2, 1×12, 1×8, 5×5, 8×8 etc…
i) XtremeVision, PCIe, by using multiple cards extend your PC desk top up to 40 screens.
- Any or all combination of the XtremeRGB PCIe capture cards can be used for video insertion with multiple windows for simultaneous acquisition.
a) Vigilant, by using multiple cards extend your PC desk top up to 32 screens.
b) Vigilant-Plus as ‘a’ above plus 4 extrenal video overlay.
c) Vigilant-Pro as ‘a’ above but requires the Avant-9 video overlay card for up to 9 composite or Svideo inputs
d) Vigilant-SQ, as ‘a’ above but requires the Avant-SQ16 video overlay card for up to 16 composite or Svideo inputs
e) Vigilant-X, extends your desktop over a maximum of 64 screens

The XtremeRGB-Ex1 captures the display output (component HD, HDMI, analog RGB or single link DVI) from one source and then displays it as an independent application on your display screen. This is done in real time, enabling you to view data from PCs, MACs, industrial/medical equipment, cameras and other video equipment.
Typical applications include:
- Viewing Analog or DVI sources from PCs, MACs,
- Industrial & Medical equipment
- Cameras and other video equipment.
- Recording Analog or DVI video sources.
- Streaming video applications.
- Video/Data Wall Controllers.
RGB Streaming:
For streaming applications, the XtemeRGB-Ex1 can be used with Directshow applications such as Windows Media Encoder / VLC etc… to compress and stream captured video. To replay the video, use Windows® Media Player. Any application compatible with Windows DirectShow technology can use the XtremeRGB-Ex1 due to its built-in WDM support.
XtremeRGB Software:
The XtremeRGB is supplied with a powerful software application for configuring the timing and format of the input sources and displaying the data. Simply connect your external DVI or Analog source into the card, run the XtremeRGB application to automatically detect the video source format and display the captured video in a window on your desktop. You can also use the software application to record and capture the Analog data at high frame rates and play it back using the EMS XtremeRecorder and XtremePlayer applications. The captured video data is displayed in a desktop window with/without menu/borders. The captured display can be resized up/down, overlapped and/or maximized to full screen display. For multi-channel capture display simply run the application multiple times and choose the appropriate input channel to display.
PhynxVCR
For DirectX WDM drivers we also offer our PhynxVCR digital recorder, similar to the Windows Media Encoder for AVI recording but with a more user friendly interface. The PhynxVCR can record the incoming analog/DVI video and the on-board audio together into an ‘AVI’ file. The recorded file can be uncompressed or compressed using whatever codec’s that are installed within the Windows Media System.
Hardware Overview:
The XtremeRGB-Ex1, a standalone PCIe x4 plug in card, delivers extreme performance with 480MB/s transfer bus bandwidth. This high industrial performance makes the XtremeRGB series ideal for a wide range of applications.
The XtremeRGB-Ex1 has one capture channel supporting up to 1920×1080 DVI (1920×1200 with reduced blanking) or 2048×1536 VGA resolutions. The XtremeRGB-Ex1 captures the Analog/DVI data and triple buffers it into onboard storage. This data is then copied using Direct Memory Access (DMA) to the host system for display, storage or streaming. The included application includes option to either transfer video data direct to the graphics card thereby increasing performance or to transfer video data to the graphics card via system memory.
